Questions From You

Explain the food link between our physical bodies and our emotional/spiritual lives.

Our emotional and spiritual experiences cause biochemical changes in our bodies that can alter our desire for food. Some times when our experience is pain, or boredom, or fear, we may eat in ways, either consciously or unconsciously, with a resulting change in the chemistry of our body and mind. This may leave us more, or less, feeling. For instance, someone may not eat when distressed or anxious... with the initial result of feeling alert and in control..or maybe even spaced-out....not really feeling. It is also the case that eating in balance with our needs can give one greater emotional and spiritual clarity. People can choose, then, to work on their food issues as a gateway to their emotional issues, or vice versa. The important point is to recognize and understand that the two - cellular/biochemical and emotional/spiritual - are indeed linked.

Why do so many people lose their battle with food and weight over and over again?

There are many, many reasons, and they vary among individuals.  Two of the most common are:

 (1) People focus on the weight when weight is usually only a reflection of something being out of balance in their life - physically, emotionally and/or spiritually.

 (2) People don't listen to, and/or choose to, override their body's signals that tell them what foods, in what combinations and in what amounts are right for them. Ignoring these intuitive signals results in struggles with weight and/or food.  Many times they think they are doing what they "should," --for example-- they have been taught that they should eat no fat, or have half portions and so they follow the "rules" and wind up not being satisfied, then not being able to sustain their eating plan overtime. All they have learned how to do is lose weight...but not really how to eat...day to day... according to their real needs.
